New Setup
Not a hugely informative post; just to say that I'm building a bench for my espresso stuff. The knock box set into the bench has made it relatively easy to clean up, particularly as I have the grinder doser directly above it.

Very nice set up. We all need a corner like this.

Hey Luca,
Sweet setup mate. Love the neon sign, nice touch! Where did you get that stainless bench from?? I'd imagine a few $$$?
Cheers,
David (Wushoes)
Hey David,
The SS bench is an IKEA jobbie that was something like $220. Then about $90 each for the cabinets and drawers, another $50 or so for a tap. All in all, pretty good value, I thought.
Cheers,
Luca
Do you mind popping through a PM on CS with a picture of the full bench. Very interested in getting one of these babies for myself! I assume it is around 900mm tall - normal bench height?
Cheers,
Dave
Hey Luca,
Looks really cool!
how do you find the dosered mazzer mini. I exchanged mine for a mini e about a year ago. While the e is nice for neatniks and lazy people, I kind of miss the doser in terms of fluffy and equal distribution.

Hi David,
As you said, the bench is, indeed this one:

Yep, 900mm, I think. 'twould be nice if it were a tiny bit shorter, actually.
Hi Thomas,
How's it going?
The dosered mini is great; the same sort of feeling as what I'm used to at work, but slower. The one that I have at the moment is a friend's - I'll need to decide whether to buy a dosered mini or bite the bullet and get a mini E. In my experience, the clumping and distribution issues with the mini E seem pretty exaggerated ... and it's so damned clean; completely unlike a traditional doserless grinder, especially if you use a massive basket and dose down in it. If people really want to be that anal, they should put their money where their mouth is and buy a robur; the difference between that and a mini is going to be way more than the difference between a mini E and a dosered mini. That said, the in-counter knockbox makes it relatively painless and clean to use the dosered mini, so I don't really have a good reason to go for the mini E. Plus the dosered mini has the advantage of allowing you to grind whilst pulling a shot, which helps when you have multiple things to make. But the mini E really is the best home grinder out there, IMHO.
Cheers,
Luca
PS. The Marte manufacturers came over to visit us last week. Very interesting; I'll email you some details once we know more.
hey mate,
dropping by to say hi. For some reason reading your blog always brings a huge smile to my face. Maybe its the level of detail, maybe the tone, whatever it is keep on writing. Things are cool over here, Lyna and I went on a trek and came back victorious with a few Starbucks plungers/presses... coffee here is not a huge thing and rarely goes beyond your instant Nescafe so we are living it up on Vitoria (Kyle bought some over) and Haitain Blue that Claude bought back with him from Haiti.
Cool, talk to you later mate
